Friday and we just spent more

Hello, and yes indeed. We have agreed to spend billions more in Iraq, we sure know how to invest! Too bad our money isn't worth spit anymore, anywho, on with the news. I'm not standing around any longer.

I hope you like endless war in Iraq, because the US Senate just voted 94-1 to spend billions more fighting there. (thenation.com)

Side notes for the Iran vote passed today

Alright, those of you who cannot spare the time to review the amendment that was signed today 76-22, the Senate passed the Lieberman-Kyl amendment, which threatens to “combat, contain and [stop]” Iran via “military instruments.” Sen. Jim Webb (D-VA) called the amendment “Cheney’s fondest pipe dream” and said it could “read as a backdoor method of gaining Congressional validation for military action.”

And here's how the Senators voted. Clinton voted for it. Obama and McCain skipped the vote.

It is the sense of the Senate--
(1) that the manner in which the United States transitions and structures its military presence in Iraq will have critical long-term consequences for the future of the Persian Gulf and the Middle East, in particular with regard to the capability of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran to pose a threat to the security of the region, the prospects for democracy for the people of the region, and the health of the global economy;

(2) that it is a critical national interest of the United States to prevent the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran from turning Shi'a militia extremists in Iraq into a Hezbollah-like force that could serve its interests inside Iraq, including by overwhelming, subverting, or co-opting institutions of the legitimate Government of Iraq;

(3), (4) [removed]

(5) that the United States should designate Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps as a foreign terrorist organization under section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act and place the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps on the list of Specially Designated Global Terrorists, as established under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act and initiated under Executive Order 13224; and

(6) that the Department of the Treasury should act with all possible expediency to complete the listing of those entities targeted under United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1737 and 1747 adopted unanimously on December 23, 2006 and March 24, 2007, respectively.

Translation, to cut through the bullshit:
(1) An observation that America's presence in Iraq will have consequences.
(2) Keep Iran from interfering in Iraq's politics.
(5) Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps = Terrorists.
(6) Department of the Treasury should work faster to comply with UN resolutions.

So in conclusion, Obama is skipping lots of votes now a days. I don't support the way Clinton voted on this, but at least she voted. Obama seems to be playing really cynical political games now. He wants to be able to come down on either side of the issue come six months or a year from now. Then he'll just say "I missed the vote but I would have voted the way that all Americans now agree upon, whatever way Americans would be thinking." Obama and McCain were both absent from the vote because their opponents in the presidential race would point to it, and call them "weak on terror".

Wednesday has given permission

And there you have it. Peaceful protesters are beaten, and Lieberman-Kyl’s Iran amendment passes. Sigh, it is a sad day for all of us. Are we completely insane? Our senators have GIVEN PERMISSION to use military force against Iran. Welcome to part 3 of the lame, lame, lame 9/11 saga. We began in Afghanistan and couldn't find Osama. Then we took a trip over to Iraq to kill Saddam. Now that he's gone we need to spread our forces over Iran. This is insane and we have just given our govt permission to find a scape goat for the entrance of Iran. Gah! How far does it have to go before we can change the political course of a nation? Even peaceful protesters get beaten, tased, and arrested. There is no answer. Good luck to everyone on surviving another day in this hell hole.

Ahmadinejad and Obama Special!

Yes, I felt the need to submit another blog entry for today. I needed a focus on 2 major events on this the 24th of September, 2007. Today, Ahmadinejad has given a speech at Columbia University, and tonight Obama will be speaking at Washington Square Park in New York City. The reasoning behind these 'rallies' is not clear as of yet, but it should definitely be noted. Something of great significance is revolving today, and I will get to the bottom of it. For now, please respond to these links covering Ahmadinejad's speech. Obama is speaking at 5:00 PM EST, so there will most likely be coverage on that tomorrow. Have a good night all, and just remember that a liberal scent is in the air.

Monday's back in the saddle again

Hello and welcome to the first week of fall. I hope everyone had a delightful summer, as mine was one to remember. It is now autumn, my favorite month. We watch the warmth fade and fall into despair as the cold winter wraps her fingers gently around our throat. asphyxiation occurs and we relax into a slumber all winter, only to emerge with the exuberance of life striving throughout our veins. Yes, i love poetic manifestation. Now, on with the news!

Regarding Ahmadinejad in NYC: "The issue we see with Columbia is deeper than freedom of speech but rather the inconsistency with which university faculties choose to support it. If men like Richard Bulliet and Lee Bollinger, and women like Lisa Marie Anderson cared about freedom of speech, they might want to enable those who don't have it, rather than celebrate the men who have taken it away."
